Slider Widget

Marcel Linnenfelser
Hi,

I was wondering, if the is a slider widget in dojo. As I haven't
found one in the downloaded dojo package (Ver. 0.2.2), I wrote one
myself. It can be tested under:

http://phpinchains.synflag.com/dojo-0.2.2-ajax/demos/widget/
fx_test_class.html

There is also a small slideshow in the file which I wrote before I
realized, that there are widgets in pre 0.3 Versions. I programmed
the classes with only 3 days experience in dojo, so, don't deal too
severly with me ...

The slider is not a subclass of dojo.widget.Widget, because I have
not enough experience to handle that.

Re: Slider Widget

Hi Marcel,

We don't have a slider in dojo; it would be nice to add one like you
wrote.  But like you said, it should descend from HtmlWidget so that you
can declare sliders via markup like this:

<div dojoType="Slider" orientation="horizontal" style="width: 200px;"
onMove="..."></div>

There are slider widgets done.... Scott wrote them a long while ago,
however they are part of a commercial package he is writing... so they
arent freebies like the rest of dojo. I must admit they are really
cool, though. If you dont mind them not being free, you can find Scott
on IRC as sjmiles.

Fwiw, our widget package is free for non-commercial use (and even the
commercial license is really cheap =P).

Ooooh, nice to know. I'll make a note that for future reference when
asked about things from Turbowidgets ;)

Hi Bill,

I will find out how Widgets are written in dojo style and provide the
slider.

I found out that there is an issue on windows internet explorer: if I
try to drag the slider button, nothing happens until mouseup. Then
the button follows the mouse until I click somewhere in the window.
Is this an issue of my code or of the HTMLDragMove I am using??
Would be great, if someone could help me out.

Re: Slider Widget

James Burke
I noticed the same thing with dojo 0.2.2. The issue seems to be fixed
in the dojo trunk. As a workaround, use a DIV instead of an img tag
and set the div's style to have:

background-image: url(image.gif)

You probably need to cancel ondragstart in ie for the element being dragged.  That's usually the cause of this bug.

It seems from this thread that Dojo eventually got a slider widget (as opposed to just the commercial package).  Is this correct?  I looked in the nightly widget examples and didn't see anything that had a name resembling "Slider".

Hi Bill.  I'm reviewing some code from a guy named Mathew for a slider
widget.  Not checked in yet though.

My understanding is the Torrey Rice (the gentleman behind the new Soria theme) has already written a slider widget that was going to be committed.

Is this not the case?

Re: Slider Widget

Mathew@Ebor
If anyone wants a copy of the slider widget code that Bill is reviewing, please email me. The zip file is setup so it can extracted into a checkout of the subversion repository.

Bill did suggest that Torrey might want to create graphics for the slider widget, but didn't mention that he was writing one.

Right, I haven't heard anything about Torrey writing a slider widget (or
any widget), besides Tom's mail.

Allow me to remind everyone again that we have a wiki page to make sure
two people aren't working on the same thing:

Mine is actually not a slider widget. It's a sliding widget where the content slides from left to right when you press
the < and > buttons

Ticket #828 has been created in dojo trac for the slider widget.

The source code is attached to the ticket. Please note that it requires changes that were made in changeset 4172 on 24-May-2006.
